Peregrine: Mission 1 Patch

Press: Mission Patch Reveal

While working as the graphic design lead at Astrobotic Technology, I was asked to design the mission patch for Peregrine: Mission 1 - set to be the first US lander to touch down on the Moon since the Apollo missions. Designing this historic patch was a huge honor and something that truly meant a lot to me as someone who loves branding, space, history, and illustration! We worked several hidden details and meanings into the patch itself: the seven craters in the patch’s Moon design represent the seven nations working on the mission, and the shadow on the moon matched the shadow of the original launch date. The red symbol is Astrobotic's logo - meant to lift the Peregrine falcon up towards the moon.

This project involved a heavy research component and collaboration with the amazing engineers and scientists working on the mission. It is currently used by Astrobotic as the mission imagery, and has been featured on numerous pieces of merchandise, advertising, and signage.

Moonshot Museum Opening Patch

The executive director of the Moonshot Museum, a Pittsburgh museum focused on lunar exploration, reached out to me and asked if I would create a patch to celebrate their grand opening in October of 2022. Moonshot is located next door to Astrobotic, and they wanted the patches to feel as though they were part of the same general visual family. After a few iterations we landed on the final design - showing a hopeful lander looking back at Earth and a starry sky. The shape of the light blue stars matches the flow of Pittsburgh's famous three rivers, with the Earth centered where they connect.

The final patch is currently being sold by Moonshot Museum, and has also been featured on additional merchandise.
